WWE main event, Last night, I had a dream that Ricardo Rodriguez became Sin Cara's manager on Main Event—I know, I'm worried that I'm dreaming about Main Event, too. Well, that didn't happen on Wednesday night's show, but Rodriguez' former partner, Alberto Del Rio, was in action against Cody Rhodes.
Unsurprisingly, those two—just days before they compete as major cogs at SummerSlam—put on a terrific match.
Other matches included The Usos vs. Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre, as well as Big E Langston vs. Justin Gabriel.
Let's take a look at how it all went down from the Sap Center in San Jose, Calif. I can't help but wonder if this a preview of something we might see in the future—Del Rio is the current world heavyweight champion, and Rhodes is feuding with Damien Sandow, who holds the Money in the Bank briefcase for that same title.
If that turns out to be true, I don't think many will be too disappointed, as this was a tremendous match. Each wrestler showed off impressive technical skills—Rhodes' flip off the top rope, Del Rio's reversals, for example—and the crowd was enthralled with the back-and-forth pace and several near-falls.
It was slightly disappointing to see Rhodes suffer a loss heading into SummerSlam, but he looked incredibly strong against the world heavyweight champion. That kind of defeat shouldn't hurt him.
On a side note, it's pretty great to see the world heavyweight champ wrestling on Main Event. This show continues to impress for how little notoriety it gets.
The Usos defeat Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre
The Usos have seemingly dropped out of the tag team title picture, but they aren't going completely away anytime soon.
They beat the Real Americans on Monday night, and although this victory was against a couple of air-guitar-rockin' jobbers, it was still entertaining, and they still got to showcase their impressive skills.
ey and Jimmy are incredibly athletic, and when they start flying around all over the place, they can be electrifying.
Although the result of this match was predictable, the Usos still found a way to make it captivating and exciting. It will be interesting to see where the company takes them after SummerSlam.
Like most matches that end Main Event, this one wasn't given all that much time. Still, Big E and Gabriel put on a very solid match for how the small time slot it received.
Most importantly, this gave Big E a chance to gain back a little bit of momentum after that embarrassment of a match on Monday night.
But it was also an impressive showing from Gabriel, who hopefully earns some kind of direction in the future.
