Game of Thrones: Actress Used In Controversial Russian Ad, I read something disturbing about Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones and the Russians. What's the story? I hope it's not what I think. -- Aida, Las Vegas.
Aida, it's not what you think -- I think. Emilia Clarke, who stars in the HBO drama, Game of Thrones, was a bit surprised recently when she discovered her photo was being used in a Russian political campaign.
TV Guide reports that the campaign is to promote the purported decline in rapes in Russia and her photo and 'story' suggests she supports the politician behind the campaign.
"I suddenly noticed that for the last couple of years I'm not afraid to walk at night in Yekaterinburg," the ad reads, according to the Daily Mirror. "I now have confidence that the city is safe, that no-one will attack me or rape me."
Clarke is not referenced as the real-life actress, but as a fictional person named Anja.
TV Guide writes that the ad organizers intentionally used Clarke's photo because it will be well recognized and therefore capture everyone's attention.
But Clarke, a resident of Great Britain, not Russia, may not be too thrilled with that. She has yet to comment on the ad, TV Guide writes.
