Toronto Public Health reportedly has shut down cronut burger vendor Epic Burgers And Waffles, after several reports suggested most people had the burger — a deep-fried doughnut-croissant hybrid stuffed with a beef patty, cheese and topped with maple bacon jam — before getting sick.
Toronto Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called to the Ex after at least five CNE-goers complained of “gastrointestinal symptoms." Symptoms included stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
Toronto Public Health is responsible to making health inspections on all food building vendors before and during the fair. They look for cleanliness, food temperatures and sanitary practices. As of August 16 (the opening day of the CNE) Epic Burgers And Waffles had a passing green.
The cronut burger was one of this year's main attractions, along with sweet potato fries with Nutella and the chili flake and bacon "spice cream cone".
