14 stabbed at Texas college: Student tackles suspect who stabbed at random, 14 people have been stabbed at the Lone Star Community College in Houston, Texas, with 12 getting medical treatment at area hospitals. According to Fox News live on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, one male suspect is in custody and he used what eyewitnesses are calling a “box cutter” type knife. Others said it looked like a razor blade knife that's used to dissect frogs, that this suspect used as a weapon. It is believed that the suspect is a student.
The Washington Times reports Tuesday afternoon that the college posted the lockdown on their website at about noon local time.Law Enforcement held a press conference at 2 p.m. ET and it was reported that the campus is still on lock-down. The spokesperson from the sheriff's department reports it is a lone suspect and they believe he is a student.
Four victims, who were seriously injured, went by helicopter to the hospital, two refused medical treatment and the rest were transported on the ground by ambulance to area hospitals. The press conference also confirmed that they now believe there is only one male suspect, instead of two as originally reported, although law enforcement is still searching student's cars before they are allowed to get into them and leave, reports an eye witness to Fox News.
At the press conference it was learned that the suspect went from building to building stabbing people at random. A student who was in the next classroom to one of the classrooms where students were stabbed said they could hear screaming, like the kind you would hear when someone is in pain and they also heard thumping on the wall, as if someone was pushed up against the wall.
It is reported that a student tackled the suspect to the ground and police then handcuffed this suspect and took him into custody. An eye witness told Fox News that the suspect was a white man with longer hair wearing a T-shirt and basketball shorts. Another witness said the man is known around campus because he is a bit "strange." He is known for carrying around a stuffed animal monkey, she told Fox News. The investigation is on-going at this time.
